Batavia joined with both Attica and Notre Dame (to form what we canlled BAND) and otherwise the teams remained the same with thirty-five playing in Section Five this year. There were 1,129 players on the rosters at the during of the season and 914 on the final rosters. Fairport carried the largest roster with forty-one players and Spencerport had the smallest with sixteen.

For the seventh time and after a brief absence, Section Five Lacrosse leadership has selected first, second and honorable mention lists of All-Section players. # 2937  GRALL Awards for 2019

The All-Star list is out recognizing the GRALL players for the 2019 season. Senior offensiveman Ryan McEvily (McQuaid) was named US Lacrosse All Academic from the GRALL and was their Player of the Year.

*+The Head Coaches of Section Five recently considered players who had been nominated for All-American and All-Academic awards. The awards, sponsored by US Lacrosse, identify some of the best players from each area around the country. Each of the Head Coaches in the section is allowed to vote on each of the awards.

# 2911  Fifth Seeded Thomas Defeats Fourth Seeded McQ

Thomas won another low scoring game with a 5-4 win over McQuaid Jesuit.  The Titans (5th seed) defeated Knights (4th seed) with a slow methodical pacing to the game.  Throughout the contest, both teams were slow to go to the cage.  They took their time before capitalizing and that led to a mostly back and forth contest.  Both teams led with the game only being more than one goal apart a single time.

# 2890  Irondequoit Comes Back in Final Minute

After trailing for nearly the entire game, Irondequoit came back to take their first lead early in the fourth quarter.  The Eagles won in the first overtime period 9-8 over McQuaid Jesuit.  The Knights took the early lead with 4 of the first 5 goals; they led by three goals twice in the first half before Irondequoit came back to tie the game (6-6) at the half.

There were fifty games played last week and lots of of exciting ones. At the moment there are seventy-two out of section games scheduled and fifty-eight have been played. Section Five has won thirty-one and the out of section teams have won twenty-seven.

Tuesday: DAY IN REVIEW: Webster Schroeder fought back from a four goal deficit to defeat Churchville-Chili 9-8 in the first overtime period. The Warriors scored the final five goals for the win and held the Saints scoreless for 13 minutes. STORY CONTINUES

# 2855  Newark, C-C and McQ Win on Wednesday

Wednesday: DAY IN REVIEW: There were four games played today and most were mismatches. Newark held BAND scorerless for three quarters as seven players made the offensive book which was led by Jayden Shepherd with 3g-2a and Matt Card (4g). Talyn Pierce had 13s for the Reds. McQuaid Jesuit scored seven unanswered goals in the seconds quarer on their way to a 16-3 win at Catherdral Prep. Nine players made the book led by Ryan McEvily with (4g). The Knights (6-2) will play Livonia-Avon on Thursday. Churchville-Chili were led by Pat Mitchell (6g-3a) and Eli Chalmers (5g-4a) in their win over Gates Chili. Aquinas and Nichols played a close game right down to the end, but came up short in the 6-8 loss when the Vikings scored scored four unanswered goals in the third quarter.

Saturday: DAY IN REVIEW: Section Five teams dominated against Section Six today, winning six of the eight games played. Winning were McQuaid Jesuit, Penfield, Thomas, Pittsford, Greece and Penn Yan. Brighton lost to St. Joseph (13-11) and Aquinas lost to Canisius (10-4).In a Section Five matchup Wayne defeated Marcus Whitman.

# 1422  Thomas Heads Back to the Finals

Second seeded Webster Thomas came out and dominated in their 16-7 win over third seed McQuaid Jesuit.  The Titans scored six unanswered in the first quarter and increased their lead to 11-2 at the end of the first half.  In the second half, McQuaid Jesuit just couldn’t make up the difference.  Thomas last made the Finals when they won the Class B Tournament in 2016.

# 1410  Week in Review: Week 8

The regular season ended on Friady with four of the five games played having an impact of the tournament seeding. Fairport, for example, played Corning and earned a 75% season with their win. Everyone team that played Fairport this year earned additional points toward seeding with that win. The Tournament seeding was released on Friday night and the games will begin on May 21st. Three hundred and eight games have been played thus far. Seventy out of Section games have been played. Section five teams have won forty-nine (70%). Victor, Thomas, HF-L, Gananda and McQuaid Jesuit ended the season at the top of their leagues.

# 1405  Canandaigua Over Hilton, McQ Wins GRALL Title

Tuesday: DAY IN REVIEW: With a 13-9 win over Aquinas, McQuaid Jesuit (12-3) won the GRALL Championship tonight. Aquinas took an early lead, but the Knights came back to a 3-3 tie by then end of the first quarter and then never lost the lead. Ryan McEvily led with 4g-1a and Jack Bilitier added 3g. Jon Gaglio made 12 saves for McQuaid Jesuit including 7 in the second Quarter. McQuaid Jesuit ends the regular season with a 12-3 record.

There were rainy days but also a couple of days with sunshine last week . One hundred and eighty-one games have been played thus far. Webster Thomas (10-0) beat Penfield and Hilton to remain the only undefeated team at this point. Gananda (7-1) lost to the Greece Storm last week. Fourty-five (of seventy-three out of Section games scheduled) have been played. Section five teams have won thirty-one (69%). Victor, Thomas, HFL, Gananda and McQuaid Jesuit continue at the top of their leagues with undefeated league records.

# 1384  Victor ends Thomas Undefeated Season

And then there were none, as the last undefeated team lost. In a greatly anticipated game this afternoon, the Blue Devils took a four goal lead and never lost it, even though the Tttans scored three goals in the last eight minutes to bring the game within one. Victor saw offense from eight different players with Camden Hay leading with 3g and Sam Lambert added 3a. Trevor Ford led the Titans with four goals, two of which were scored in the last minute of the game.

# 1358  Penn Yan Wins in Double OT

SATURDAY: DAY IN REVIEW: Although the forecast called for an ice storm throughout the day, nine games were able to be completed on a very cold day. Penn Yan won in double overtime with a goal by Colton Smith. Gananda won an exciting 11-10 victory over Pal-Mac as the combination of seniors Brett Cunningham and Henry Bush combined for seven goals which proved to be the difference. Spencerport and Schroeder had two ties before the Warriors scored two goals in the last quarter for a 6-4 win.

Wednesday: DAY IN REVIEW: It certainly was a team effort as the McQuaid Jesuit Knights overcame a 4-1 deficit with five second quarter goals to give them a 9-7 win in Baltimore against the Archbishop Curley Friars(4-2). Although eight different players made the offensive book, junior attackman Ryan McEvily led the offensive effort with 2g-2a and senior midfielder Will Harvey added 1g-2a.

# 1184  Friday: Penfield Rallies for Comsewogue Win

DAY IN REVIEW: After five ties, Penfield took off in the last quarter scoring four unanswered goals to take a victory, this afternoon, at Comsewogue (Section XI). Six different players made the offensive book for the Patriots. Leading the pack was Joey Barboza with 3g-3a. Senior midfielder Peter Schwab was the ground ball leader with nine. For the Warriors (3-5), Ryan Dorney was the offensive leader with 2g-1a.
